The Heritage Series
Earthen Vessel’s features the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, with dances exploring the elements, the periodic table, and a historical tribute to a man of the earth, Cesar Chavez. Come see science, history and art brought together in this wonderful show celebrating our American heritage! Guest performance by former Houston Ballet Principal, Lauren Anderson, and new works choreographed by Steve Rooks (formerly with Martha Graham), Trey McIntyre, and Founding Artistic Director, Sandra Organ Solis for this special anniversary concert, with an opening night soiree following the evening performance!
If the purpose of dance is to put a smile on the faces in the audience, then Sandra Organ Solis' ELLA! gets high marks. Performed to the honey-sweet vocals of Ella Fitzgerald, the trio of Lauren Bay, Rebekah Chappell and Michele Kitchen were all sunshine and girlish confection in their retro-chic dresses. The sumptuous choreography, filled with pretty pirouettes, chaine turns and pique arabesques was easily the most traditional of the six, but felt like one of the freshest in its vibrancy. - Houston Press
